DDA Sidewalk Project

Under:

Since the formation of the DDA in November 2005, the appointed Board of Directors have been working to find grants to use as leverage with DDA funds to construct our highest priority project, safe pedestrian walkways within the DDA District. As you may already know, $546,000 in funds through the Federal Highway Administration has been awarded to the Town for enhancement of pedestrian ways and drainage issues in CDOT right-of-way along parts of Hwy 119. An additional $325,000 in stimulus funds was awarded in March 2009. In accordance with federal guidelines, the DDA and Town officials released a request for proposals in October, interviewed four firms for the job of designing and engineering this project, and chose the firm of Loris and Associates of Louisville to complete this phase.

Forest Health

Forest health is an important issue for Nederland. The impending mountain pine beetle epidemic in Boulder County will potentially cause 85 percent mortality in lodgepole pines, with the possibility of ponderosa pine infestation too. This problem will require public and private partnerships to reduce wildfire risks and create defensible space around our communities.

The PROSAB is working with other groups (Nederland Fire Protection District, Indian Peaks Forest Alliance (IPFA), Boulder County) to address the impacts of the Mountain Pine Beetle and increasing wildfire danger. A first step in this process is a Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP), which sets out how we would coordinate wildfire mitigation around the Nederland area. The CWPP also is required to be eligible for federal and state funds.

Please help by taking the CWPP survey.

Boulder County Sort Yard
in 2009, the County approved a sort yard site on Ridge Road. The Nederland Board of Trustees also decided to amend the Mud Lake IGA for the sort yard location.

Nederland Trails Project

Under:

The Nederland Trails Project is a GOCO-funded project to build and enhance trails in Nederland. The project is ongoing, and Phase I will be completed in the fall of 2009.

Trail Markers
Part of the trails project includes marking existing routes around Nederland. A trail marker design was completed by local firm Gillespie Studios.

Community Center to Town Trail Segment
The main component of the current funding is a trail from the Community Center down to town. Turnburke Associates, a local firm, designed this portion of the trail. The contract for excavation was awarded in May to McCollum Excavation, another local business.
